Team Rosters are now posted.
All players in the 15-17 age groups have been assigned to one of the following teams.
15 Black Prospect, 15 Gold Showcase, 16 Prospect, 17 Black Showcase, 17 Gold Showcase
Team Selection Process:
Each player in the 15-17 age group was evaluated each week in practice. During these evaluations the Dawgs staff was looking at the following criteria:
Player Info:
Age/ Grad year/ Physical size/ Positions played
Baseball Tools:
Position players: Running speed, footwork, arm strength, body awareness, swing mechanics, power, fielding ability, baseball IQ, overall athleticism.
Pitchers: Arm strength, velocity, mechanics, command, breaking/off speed pitches, pitchability, mound presence
Prospect Status: This is a measure of where a player is right now in their baseball development and where they project to be in a year or two or three. Players develop at different times and various rates from both a physical/maturity standpoint and a baseball skills standpoint.
By using the above information and criteria the coaching staff made decisions on which roster each player would be placed on to be in the best position to continue to develop as a player and one day be able to reach the goal of earning a roster spot on a college baseball team. A big component of roster placement was the position a player plays. We cant have teams composed of 6 shortstops and zero outfielders. Roster placements reflect this. Rosters were not built strictly by a players age. This isn't youth baseball anymore where all players on the team are of the same playing age. All players are high school aged and should be ready to compete against other high school aged players regardless of specific age group. Teams can consist of players from multiple age/grad years. Player can be assigned to play on older teams.
Prospect teams: Prospect teams will consist of players that are not quite ready yet to begin being recruited heavily by college baseball programs. Players on the prospect teams show future potential but still need some more time to develop measurable tools (FB velocity, 60 Times etc). Players on these teams will get ample playing time. The number one goal is to give players the opportunity to gain valuable in game experience. There will be no "pitch only" players on the prospect teams. Players will have the opportunity to pitch (if they are pitchers) and play a position.
Showcase Teams: Showcase teams will consist of players that have shown an ability or tool that might catch the attention of a college coach. The primary goal of the showcase teams is player exposure to all divisions of college coaches. Players on these teams are not guaranteed equal playing time. College coaches often ask to see certain players in certain games and we will accommodate their requests. Some players on the showcase teams will be "pitch only". If a player projects to be a pitcher in college they may not get an opportunity to play a position during the summer. This is not the forum for players to play positions that they most likely wont play at the next level. Showcase teams will play a very competitive schedule that requires a good amount of traveling.
NOTE: All final roster decisions were made by Frank and Ryan. Please do not text or call other parents, coaches etc with questions about how or why. They do not know any more than you do. If you have any questions please read the information posted above. all players were placed on the roster where they fit best at this point in time in their baseball development.
